What is Single Pair Ethernet (SPE)?

The direct path from the sensor to the cloud

SPE is an Ethernet-based communication that forms the basis for a wide range of transmission protocols. The consistent concept enables direct communication between the sensor and the cloud, allowing individual stages of the automation pyramid to be combined and applications to be simplified.

How does Single Pair Ethernet work?

High degree of flexibility with minimal cabling effort

Transfer speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s and line lengths of up to 1000 m allow a high degree of flexibility with a simultaneous high degree of transmission rates. By using only one pair of wires ("single pair"), the cabling effort is considerably reduced and existing cabling can continue to be used. In addition, the individual sensors are supplied with energy directly via the SPE line (PoDL = "Power over Data Line"), which further reduces the installation and cabling effort.
